Come to Paradise where you will be far from the crowds,
in your own quiet retreat.
We will be just 15 minutes from the little towns of Keaau and Pahoa, and 30 minutes to Hilo, where you can swim at the beach and visit great health food stores and excellent restaurants and shops, and within 30 minutes of the town of Volcano, where you may see the active lava flows from the Kilauea Caldera. The house will have a fully equipped kitchen for preparing our own delicious organic meals.
Accommodations
Prices tend to range from $35-45 per night, with 2 or 3 people per room, in separate beds or (if requested) in a double or queen bed. Also you have the option of making your own arrangements for lodging.
Food
We keep the cost of meals to a minimum ($20 per day), including 3 meals with abundant snacks and beverages, with high quality organic food. We meet special requests for dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, non-dairy, non-wheat and non-gluten. Joy normally eats a non-wheat, non-dairy diet, so that's fairly easy to do. We provide plenty of protein, and there are poultry or fish options at almost every meal. We can keep the food costs relatively low because participants actually do the cooking and cleaning. Breakfast is on a serve-yourself basis, with plenty options to choose from. Two people volunteer to prepare lunch and dinner, and two people clean up from lunch and dinner. Joy provides the recipes, supplies the food, and supervises the kitchen. The food is excellent.
For breakfast, supplies are provided and you can make your own. Joy will demonstrate how to make her favorite smoothies. There are also various dry and hot cereals; eggs; turkey bacon, and a broad selection of bread (rye, Rudi's ancient grain spelt, Milton's Multigrain).
For lunch, we usually make a huge salad (we have excellent salad recipes) and then provide materials for sandwiches and leftovers.
Dinners are extraordinary. Fish, chicken or turkey are generally available for all meals, and vegetarian options are always provided.
"The food recipes were very nice. I felt blessed that you really were conscious about my vegan diet and accomodated that so easily."
"I love the food, it is exactly what and how we eat--whole food with wonderful spices and condiments."
"Chores were handled well by all. Nice give-and-take there. Fun to be exposed to new recipes, and still have permission to decline."
"Enjoyed tasting new recipes. Thankful for between meal snacks. Liked the fair price of meals. Loved arrangements and how well everyone worked together."

Practical Realities
Transportation
Participants usually share rental cars (3 or 4 people per car), which helps keep expenses down. We can help you to make those connections.
Massage
We have a superb in-house masseuse, who will come to the workshop location. She does various forms of massage, including the most well-loved lomi-lomi Hawaiian massage. She charges $60 for a one-hour massage and $90 for one-and-a-half hours.
"Mela is a beautiful sensual soul with an exquisite ability for a most memorable massage."

Touring the Island
You will have two days off, and on one of those days, Jonathan (my Sweetheart) can take you on a Guided Tour to some prime spots around the island, for just $40 per person per day, payable by July 13. (Participants will use their own cars, and Jonathan will ride with you, to share stories and legends of the area.)
"Jonathan did a great job on the tour, making everyone feel comfortable, and he was a joy to meet!"
"I really enjoyed Jonathan's easy-going personality."
"Jonathan is a warm, open soul with a sense of humor and exploration and flexibility. I loved the trip to this wonderful beach and it was a great spot for snorkeling. We went to a beautiful restaurant with delicious food, and then we drove to another part of the island along a scenic route to an area with exquisite little stores for shopping and then a great scenic drive back."
Want to Bring Your Partner, or Your Whole Family?
Sometimes participants like to bring their friends or families. No problem. We can help you to find lodging nearby. They are welcome to come along on the Guided Tours during the days of rest (or you can go off in your own direction), and they're welcome to join us for some of our group dinners, and some evenings.
